Sina-Sophia Schmidt (b. 2000) is a painter and filmmaker currently living in Dortmund, Germany. She graduated at City and Guilds of London Art School in 2021 with a first class honours.
Sina’s paintings explore invisible realms of experience—emotions, intuitive knowledge, and metaphysical states that resist language. Her works hold human vulnerability while gesturing toward a broader sense of presence.
Working intuitively and with chance, she builds and excavates surfaces through layering and sanding, allowing images to emerge over time. Moving between abstraction and figuration, and drawing from dreams, photography, and online imagery, her work treats painting as both a material pleasure and an emotional vessel—where the immaterial, the digital, and lived experience intersect.
Her work in film extends this approach. Using the medium in an experimental, painterly way, she creates stories removed from the real world that offer alternative ways of sensing, understanding, and being.
